I have recently discovered George RR Martin's books. Starting with Game of Thrones, these things suck you in like you've never read a book before. And the HBO mini-seiries, although there is a lot of nudity, is still quite good.
The long and short? Read these books. But pace yourself. Book five won't be paperback until July, and who knows when book six will be out.
Also, read The Hunger Games and see the movie. They're both good. Both good.
