There's An Ent!!

I was thinking (a dangerous pastime I know), that I should in some fashion record my time in SD. This is what I came up with.

I suppose I should start with how I, born and raised in North Idaho and educated in Eastern Washington, with family ties to the East Coast, should end up in South Dakota. It's an interesting story (and this is the abridged version). This story, I like to say, has God's hand prints (and bootprints. I was a little slow : ) ) all over it.

I had submitted an application to the Deadwood Adam's Museum and House online (I was applying to lots of museums). There wasn't an employment link, but I loved the look of it and sent my resume to the contact email anyway. She was very nice and my resume was put on file. I thought that was the end of it. One morning, I got a call offering me a job at the Historic Adams House. I was a little in shock, and when they realized I was in Idaho, I was told to find a place to live and call back for an interview.

This is around 8:30. By noon, I pretty much had a place to live. I hadn't seen it (naturally) but I had talked to the landlady and realized that she was very nice (consistently). After a time difference snafu, a phone interview while at church conference (Adam Hamilton spoke, and we have an awesome bishop), I started plans to move. A week after my interview, I was in Montana with my family on the way to South Dakota. They moved me out. I started training almost immediately, got in on Friday and started training on Monday. Yeah. It's taken about the full three weeks to get adjusted. I'm still unpacking. Work is wonderful, the people are great (people keep telling me to call if I need anything). And also, I'm learning to cook. Kind of.

And, to get back to the title, there is a tree with a face looking into the windows of my apartment (seen best through the kitchen and bathroom). This, naturally, is an Ent. And I cannot begin to describe how happy that makes me. I have an Ent.

I have interesting internet service right now, so postings might be a little sporadic.
