...but I was actually inspired by a Katy Perry song. I don't know know if you've seen the music video for "Firework," but once you get over the fireworks coming out of people's chests and listen to the lyrics...
"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag/Drifting through the wind/Wanting to start again...Do you know that there's still a chance for you/Cause there's a spark in you/You just gotta ignite the light/And let it shine/Just own the night/Like the Fourth of July/Cause baby you're a firework/Come on show 'em what you're worth...You don't have to feel like a waste of space/You're original, cannot be replaced/If you only knew what the future holds/After a hurricane comes a rainbow..."
...and other such inspirational lines make me think. I just don't usually listen to Katy Perry expecting to be inspired. Weirder things have happened, I suppose.
And, to balance out the Katy Perry, here is a quote from Nelson Mandala. I was really struck by how listening to that song reminded me of this quote, which was a weird mental jump.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others." - Nelson Mandela
And finally, from Romans (8:38-39) "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord."
Well, my justification for putting these together was that the one reminded me of the other, then I was reminded of a Bible verse while thinking. I don't think the Romans verse was the one I thought of originally, but to me it seems to fit. I would add though, that not even my own fears and thoughts of being inadequate can separate me from the love of my Lord and Savior (And that is a comforting thought. Sorry, could not resist). The only way that could be in the way is if I let those things rule my life, and put them ahead of my relationship with God, but that's a different post altogether. He loves me the way I am, and although we both know that I have things to fix, with God I am growing into the woman He wants me to be. I am a beloved child of God; He knows my shortcomings and loves me anyway.
Special thanks to the NIV, Katy Perry, Nelson Mandela, and that one writer guy.
