A Few Things...

First, I love to use ellipses. They are fun.

Second, I have decided (in a fit of tired craziness) that ONE blog wasn't quite enough. Therefore, I have created my other blog. This is something I've tossing around for a while, because I love to read, watch movies and some tv shows, and frankly, if I did that here it would become a different blog. So, this is my solution. If you want to read my crazy opinion on books, movies and other forms of entertainment, check out this blog:

Thirdly, I submitted my application to the University of Washington's Museology Program (MA). Fingers crossed (why yes, I do love Dr. Horrible, how about you?)

OK, now that all THAT is out of the way...here is the stuff that I am really excited about! She jokes :) (ALSO: apologies for all the links in this post)

http://news.discovery.com/archaeology/king-tuts-tomb-to-remain-open.html

This leads to an article on Discovery News in the Archaeology News section. This article "King Tut's Tomb to Remain Open," excited me for several reasons.

You may not know know this about me, but I love archaeology (not just Indiana Jones and Daniel Jackson, but the real kind too :) ) This is the focus I want to take in grad school (we'll talk about that later). Secondly, I LOVE King Tut. I find him, his tomb, and most Ancient Egyptian History to be fascinating. Therefore, I want to make it to Egypt before the tomb is closed down.

One of the most interesting things about this article, to me at least, is the idea of creating a "Valley of the Replicas," a $10 million project to (you guessed it) replicate the original tombs found in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. I think that once I become good at languages I'm heading to Egypt to work on this (is that right? Linnea is judging me for my potentially poor grammar...)

I think that this project would be amazing to work on. I mean, it's an exact replica of one of the most exciting archaeological finds in the last few hundred years, mainly due to it's being mostly intact. However, I did have to wonder, as Dad pointed out, couldn't they use that $10 million (plus some of the money spent to get into the tombs, potentially reaching $8500 per visit) and RESTORE THE ORIGINAL TOMBS? They could maybe invest in some great plexi-glass, I don't know (I haven't been to grad school yet) but isn't there some way that that money could be funneled into preserving the originals?

Although this has given me a second dream/life goal. To build a replication of the Valley of the Kings out of Legos. I'll keep you posted on that. Maybe I'll throw the Pyramids in there. It'll be amazing. Just wait and see.

But I admit that while it is exciting that Tut's Tomb isn't going to cost $8500 a visit this year, that day is coming and I need to get working on that. I'm kind of running out of time (Three hundred lives of men I have walked this earth and now I have no time).

Second exciting bit of news: According to time.com, they have found Blackbeard's sword! Apparently they've been excavating the Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard's flagship until 1718) for the past ten years. Bailey fail. Blackbeard was actually named Edward Teach, and was one of the first pirates/corsairs to fly a black flag). There really isn't much in the article, but there are links to photos from the excavations as well as some more information about Blackbeard. Read the article and be amused by the beautiful picture of Blackbeard. I'd run away too.

Actually, I lied. I also started my second job, and apart from the whole "starting at 5:45 am" thing, I think I'll be ok. It's kind of really exciting. Wait, I got up at 5:45 this morning, why am I still awake? OK, this is me, signing off. Have a wonderful day all! (PS I'm training, so I started today at 6:45).

(I'm tired, so while I know I quoted people, I didn't keep track. But there is a Tolkien one in there. A bit of a stretch; I'm not that old; but still :)
